BEHIND THE RESULT

A school concern became a project

In a report published on 16 February 2022, YourStory described 13-year-old Anoushka Jolly’s work on the Anti-Bullying Squad and an app called Kavach. The account traced the initiative to 2018, after she witnessed a younger child being bullied at school. It described mentors encouraging her to think about a response. Her work began with conversations and awareness sessions before expanding into online formats. This is a dated account of a young person’s project, rather than a claim about what the service offers today.

From awareness to a reporting idea

The report explained Kavach as a way for students, parents and bystanders to report bullying, including an anonymous reporting option, so schools and counsellors could respond. It described help from her father in developing the idea. A later government release, dated 24 January 2023, named Anoushka among the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awardees and referred to her app and online anti-bullying programmes. That date belongs to the government announcement; it is not the project’s starting date. The sources reviewed here do not establish the app’s current availability or independently measured effectiveness.

A question for your own classroom

An awareness project invites us to ask what makes it easier for someone to speak up. Think about the adults a student could approach and how a school could explain its reporting process clearly. This is a reader reflection, not a claim about Anoushka’s current programme. You do not need to share a personal incident or identify another child to explore the idea. The useful design question is how a service can make its next step understandable while leaving the actual response with responsible adults.
