Two gifts

Armaan Ubhrani comes from Torwa, in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. He started writing at the age of four, and by six he had published three books — Pink Dolphin, Planex and My Continent Asia.

The Government of India’s award material describes him as the youngest author of a book series; a later official backgrounder calls the three books a trilogy. His first lessons were close to home: his mother Saina is a teacher who runs a play school in Bilaspur, and Armaan finished his kindergarten years in her classrooms.

Twelve minutes, twenty-eight seconds

His other gift is speed with numbers, which earned him the nickname “Google boy”. On 10 March 2022, just before his fifth birthday, Armaan solved 100 multiplication sums — two-digit and three-digit numbers multiplied by a single digit — in 12 minutes and 28 seconds, a feat the India Book of Records confirmed as its “youngest to solve 100 multiplication sums” record.

On 22 January 2024, aged six, he received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar in the Art and Culture category from President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi — one of 19 children honoured that year, and among the youngest of them.

✳ A spark to explore

If you could write a book about anything at all, what would your first book be about — and who would you want to read it? That is a question from us, not part of his record.
