The achievement

Jesicca Neyi Saring comes from Roing in the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh. At the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub-Junior Ranking Tournament in Gaya, Bihar, she won the Under-13 girls’ doubles gold medal — a result Sportskeeda reported as the first national badminton gold won by a shuttler from Arunachal Pradesh.

On 22 January 2024 she received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar in the Sports category from President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Three years of state titles

The national medal sits on top of a run of state results: for three straight years Jesicca won the girls’ singles titles at Under-9, Under-11 and Under-13 at the Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship. The Government of India’s award material credits her with more than twenty state and national championships across the Under-11, Under-13 and Under-15 categories, in singles and doubles.

✳ A spark to explore

Jesicca kept winning the same state titles as she moved up each age group. What changes when the players around you get older and stronger — and what has to change in how you practise? That is a question from us, not part of her record.
