BEHIND THE RESULT

The young teacher

In November 2018, Scroll magazine profiled a 12-year-old from Telangana who was already a familiar teacher to thousands of strangers. Amar’s channel, Learn With Amar, offered memory tricks for the hardest lists in the school atlas — the countries of the world, the rivers of India — techniques developed by his father, Goverdhan Chary Thogini, and delivered on camera with a schoolboy’s confidence. The channel had around 1.6 lakh subscribers when Scroll reported it.

How the channel began

CollegeDekho’s February 2019 profile names him in full — Amar Swathwik Thogiti — and says he was 13, with more than 1,87,000 subscribers. It records how the channel began in 2016, when he was ten: he loved playing with an atlas in Class 5, his father — a government school teacher — began teaching him geography, and when Amar acted out a lesson, his mother filmed it and put it online. The response turned the performance into a channel. Many of his viewers were not schoolchildren at all but aspirants preparing for the UPSC civil-services examination, who posted requests; Amar would research a topic for about two weeks, practise, and then teach it. His younger brother Angh Vignesh also made videos for the channel.

A spark to explore

Amar told CollegeDekho he hoped to expand into economics and political science, and that he himself wanted to become an IAS officer. Coverage of Amar is concentrated in 2018–19; no later verified profile was found, and no age is asserted beyond the dated reports. Amar taught lessons to adults preparing for one of India’s toughest exams — what is something you understand well enough that you could teach it to someone older than you? That is a question from us, not part of his record.

Channel milestones (Silver Play Button, June 2018; six lakh subscribers, September 2018; Diamond Play Button, November 2020) are channel achievements shared with her brother Aayu — a separate record — and are labelled as such.
